Red Rock Resorts, under its subsidiary Station Casinos, has gained the final regulatory approval from the Nevada Gaming Commission for its upcoming $780 million Durango Casino and Resort in Southern Nevada. The project is set to open its doors on November 20, marking a significant addition to the local casino scene after 14 years.
1. A Milestone for Local Casino Expansion:
The Durango Casino and Resort, a project under construction for nearly 20 months, will become the first local-oriented addition to the Nevada casino venues in 14 years. Situated strategically near the 215 Beltway and South Durango Drive, it is expected to serve the quarter-million adults residing within a 5-mile radius, filling a gap in the local market.
2. The Durango Casino and Resort: A Comprehensive Entertainment Destination:
The Durango Casino and Resort is set to feature a 201-room hotel, an expansive 83,000-square-foot casino floor with 2,300 slot machines and 63 table games, 15 dining establishments, 25,000-square-foot food hall, convention and meeting space, and a resort pool area. This project signifies a notable expansion phase for Station Casinos.
3. Labor Disputes and Future Expansion Plans:
While the Durango project received regulatory approval, it faces challenges with local Las Vegas workers unions, reflecting the ongoing labor dispute between Culinary Workers Local 226 and Station Casinos. Despite this, more than 25,000 people have applied to work at Durango, showcasing the potential for job creation and economic impact.
4. Growth Prospects and Company Vision:
Station Casinos’ President Scott Kreeger highlighted the positive impact of the Durango project on job creation and tax revenue for the state and local authorities. Additionally, the company plans to further expand its presence with up to seven additional Nevada casinos over the next 10 years, illustrating a strong commitment to growth and investment in the region.
