Pennsylvania’s regulated gaming and fantasy contest revenue reached $476.3 million in September, marking a substantial 6.2% year-on-year increase compared to September 2022. The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board’s comprehensive data highlights that this growth was driven by various gaming verticals, with the online gaming segment emerging as the star performer for the month.
Diverse Gaming Revenue Sources:
The revenue sources under the purview of the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board include slot machines, table games, internet gaming, sports wagering, fantasy contests, and video gaming terminals (VGTs). While retail slots revenue increased modestly by 0.7% year-on-year to $199.9 million, retail table games revenue saw a decline of 7.8% to $75.2 million.
Online Gaming’s Remarkable Surge:
The standout feature of Pennsylvania’s gaming revenue for September was the online gaming segment. This sector experienced remarkable growth, with revenue surging by an impressive 41.5% to reach $159.5 million. Notably, this figure surpassed the previous record of $148.2 million set in March, indicating a consistently growing trend.
Online slots revenue played a significant role in this growth, marking a 47.3% increase to $114.7 million. Additionally, internet table games revenue increased by 31.7% to $42.4 million. However, online poker revenue showed a decrease of 10.4% to $2.4 million during the same period.
Sports Betting Landscape:
In contrast to the online gaming sector, the revenue from sports betting in Pennsylvania witnessed a 27.1% year-on-year decline, totaling $36.6 million. Interestingly, this dip occurred despite a 12.6% increase in the total betting handle, reaching $726.3 million.
Pennsylvania’s latest gaming revenue figures demonstrate the dynamism and growth within the state’s gaming industry. While retail slots revenue and retail table games faced some challenges, the online gaming sector experienced an outstanding surge, setting new records. These statistics reflect the evolving preferences of players and the expanding online gaming landscape. Furthermore, the sports betting segment, though experiencing a drop in revenue, still maintained a robust betting handle. Pennsylvania continues to be a key player in the US gaming market, illustrating the resilience and adaptability of the industry in the face of changing trends and challenges.
