Rivers Casino Philadelphia, a dedicated community partner, has pledged $1 million to support the Penn Treaty Special Services District (SSD), which caters to the neighborhoods of Fishtown, Northern Liberties, Olde Richmond, and South Kensington. The SSD serves as a vital conduit for distributing the casino’s grants to local community organizations.
A Decade-Long Commitment to Local Well-being
The Penn Treaty SSD has a remarkable track record of enhancing the quality of life in these neighborhoods over the past 14 years. The organization’s grants have supported a wide range of community initiatives, including sponsoring neighborhood festivals, community gatherings, physical improvements to parks, playgrounds, gardens, and infrastructure, as well as operating arts, sports, education, and recreation programs. To date, they have awarded 737 grants totaling $10 million to 182 nonprofit organizations.
Eric Althaus, General Manager of Rivers Casino, expressed pride in the ongoing collaboration with the Penn Treaty SSD, recognizing the crucial role played by this organization in supporting the neighboring communities. “We’re privileged to support its mission,” he said.
Rick Angeli, Chairman of the Penn Treaty Special Services District Board, acknowledged the extraordinary work of community leaders and organizations that have tirelessly strived to improve the quality of life in their neighborhoods. He also extended gratitude to Rivers Casino for their steadfast support and unwavering commitment, emphasizing that without Rivers’ annual contributions, much of the vital work in these communities would not be possible.
Commitment to the Community
This substantial donation reaffirms Rivers Casino Philadelphia’s commitment to being an integral part of its neighboring communities. The $1 million contribution demonstrates the casino’s dedication to improving the well-being of the areas it serves and its commitment to the broader community’s social and economic development.
Rivers Casino Philadelphia operates 1,522 slot machines, 136 table games, and provides employment for 1,138 individuals. The ongoing support for the Penn Treaty SSD exemplifies the casino’s continuous efforts to positively impact the lives of those residing in its vicinity.
Pennsylvania Gaming on the Rise
The news of this significant donation coincides with the recent increase in Pennsylvania’s gaming revenue. For September, the state reported a combined revenue of $476.3 million from regulated gaming and fantasy contests, signifying a 6.2% growth compared to September 2022.
Key sources of gaming revenue, such as slot machines, table games, internet gaming, sports wagering, fantasy contests, and video gaming terminals (VGTs), all contributed to the uptick in Pennsylvania’s gaming revenue. While retail slot revenue increased by 0.7% to reach $199.9 million, retail table games revenue experienced a decrease of 7.8% to $75.2 million.
These figures underscore the resilience and growth potential of Pennsylvania’s gaming industry, which remains a significant driver of revenue and employment opportunities in the state.
