A recent report by the Arizona Department of Gaming (ADG) revealed that the state’s sports betting handle for March 2023 reached $644 million. This figure represents a notable 6% increase compared to the previous month, making it the second-highest month for sports betting in Arizona since its launch in September 2021.
Strong Performance in March:
The sports betting landscape in Arizona continues to thrive, with March 2023 marking the fifth time that the state has surpassed $600 million in wagers. This impressive performance underscores the growing popularity of sports betting in the region. As we approach the end of Fiscal Year 2023, there is anticipation for further developments in the sports betting sector.
Privilege Fees Contribution:
Arizona collected privilege fees exceeding $3.7 million in March, contributing to a cumulative total of $43 million in privilege fees since the commencement of legal sports betting operations. These fees play a crucial role in supporting various initiatives and programs within the state.
Sustainable Growth:
Jackie Johnson, the Director of ADG, expressed her positive outlook regarding the future of sports betting in Arizona. She highlighted the substantial progress made in March and the state’s potential to maintain a trajectory of sustainable growth. The consistency of surpassing the $600 million mark indicates a robust market.
Upcoming Casino Opening:
In addition to the positive sports betting trends, Arizona is set to welcome a new casino on June 30. The Santan Mountain casino, located south of Chandler, will be the fourth casino under the Gila River Indian Community (GRIC). This $180 million casino project was approved through a gaming compact amendment in May 2021 and commenced construction in December 2021.
Arizona’s sports betting industry continues to demonstrate strong growth, with the March 2023 handle reaching $644 million, marking it as the second-highest month since its launch. The collection of privilege fees further contributes to the state’s revenue. As the Gila River Indian Community prepares to open a new casino in the coming months, Arizona’s gaming landscape remains dynamic and promising.
