Illinois Gaming Board Greenlights Hard Rock Casino’s Sports Betting License

In a significant move, the Illinois Gaming Board (IGB) has granted approval for the launch of a new sportsbook at the Hard Rock Casino in Rockford. Additionally, the IGB has awarded a sports wagering management service provider license to Seminole Hard Rock Digital, marking a crucial development in the state’s expanding gaming industry.

Regulatory Approval Process:
IGB Administrator Marcus Fruchter underscored the board’s commitment to implementing the state’s landmark gaming expansion law transparently and efficiently. The approval comes with the stipulation that Hard Rock must adhere to IGB rules before offering both in-person and online sports wagering. The casino aims to initiate sports betting operations within the next two months, pending the finalization of internal controls, staff hiring, and training.

Geno Iafrate, President of Hard Rock Casino Rockford, expressed excitement about integrating sports betting as the latest amenity, stating, “We are very appreciative of the IGB’s hard work and diligence to get us to this point.”

License and Provider Approvals:
The IGB has granted a master sports wager operator license to 815 Entertainment, LLC, operating as Hard Rock Casino Rockford. Simultaneously, Seminole Hard Rock Digital, LLC, has been licensed as a management service provider to oversee both retail and online sports wagering.

Additionally, the board identified DGC IL, LLC as the sole qualified applicant and winning bidder in a competitive selection for an online-only sports wagering license under the Illinois Sports Wagering Act. DGC IL, LLC will now undergo the standard licensing determination process.

Operational Outlook:
Geno Iafrate provided insight into the casino’s operational timeline, expressing hope for the sports betting services to be rolled out within the next couple of months. The announcement marks a significant step forward for both the Hard Rock Casino and the broader Illinois gaming landscape.

Board Decisions:
While approvals and licenses were granted, the IGB denied licenses for two video gaming locations, one terminal operator license, and three Level 3 denials for casino occupational licenses. However, the board did approve 233 new gaming licenses and various other authorizations for casino gambling, video gaming, and sports wagering, alongside the renewal of existing licenses.

The green light from the Illinois Gaming Board signals the imminent integration of sports betting at Hard Rock Casino Rockford, aligning with the state’s strategic gaming expansion initiatives. As the casino readies itself for this new venture, stakeholders anticipate positive contributions to Illinois’ evolving gaming landscape.
