Penn Entertainment Set to Break Ground on State-of-the-Art Hollywood Casino-Joliet

Penn Entertainment has announced a groundbreaking ceremony for its future Hollywood Casino-Joliet, scheduled for tomorrow (December 13). The new land-based casino, replacing the existing riverboat casino, is a significant development for Penn Entertainment. The ceremony will be attended by key stakeholders, including members of the Illinois Gaming Board, Illinois General Assembly, Mayor of Joliet, City Council, and local dignitaries.

Transition to Land-Based Facility:
The groundbreaking event marks the initiation of the construction phase for the new Hollywood Casino-Joliet. During the approximately 24-month construction period, the existing Hollywood Casino Joliet will continue its normal operations. The $185 million project is part of the RockRun Collection, a new commercial and residential development located near the Interstate 80 and Interstate 55 interchange in Joliet.

Facility Features:
The state-of-the-art venue will boast approximately 850 slot machines, 44 live table games (including a dedicated baccarat room), a retail sportsbook, upscale bars and restaurants, a 10,000-square-foot event center with meeting areas, and around 1,330 parking spaces. The development aims to offer a modern and engaging gaming and entertainment experience in the vibrant Chicagoland market.

Job Creation and Economic Impact:
Penn Entertainment anticipates creating 450 construction jobs and 515 permanent jobs at the new Hollywood Casino-Joliet. This expansion is expected to increase Penn’s current team in Joliet by 150 team members, contributing to both short-term and long-term economic growth in the region.

Leadership Statements:
Jay Snowden, CEO and President of Penn Entertainment, expressed enthusiasm about the project’s progress, highlighting the ideal location’s visibility and accessibility in the highly attractive Chicagoland market. Mike Thoma, Vice President and General Manager of Hollywood Casino Joliet, shared the excitement, emphasizing the positive impact on the property, local community, and enhanced customer experience.

Milestone Achievements:
The Hollywood Casino-Joliet project received approval from the Joliet City Council in February, allowing for development at Rock Run Crossings. Penn Entertainment’s decision to relocate its riverboat casinos in Aurora and Joliet to new land-based facilities underscores the company’s commitment to modernizing its offerings and contributing to the economic vitality of the region.

Penn Entertainment’s groundbreaking ceremony for the Hollywood Casino-Joliet signals a significant step toward the realization of a cutting-edge gaming and entertainment destination. The company’s investment in a state-of-the-art facility aligns with its strategic vision and commitment to delivering an exceptional experience for both visitors and the local community. The event marks a noteworthy milestone in Penn Entertainment’s expansion efforts and underscores its dedication to fostering economic growth in the Chicagoland market.
