Hard Rock International (HRI) has officially announced the cessation of operations at The Mirage Hotel & Casino on July 17, 2024, marking the beginning of a significant transformation project. The iconic Las Vegas property will be converted into the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino and Guitar Hotel Las Vegas (HRHCLV), featuring a nearly 700-foot guitar-shaped hotel at the heart of the Strip.
A New Era for The Mirage
After 34 years as a staple on the Las Vegas Strip, The Mirage Hotel & Casino will close its doors to undergo a dramatic renovation and rebranding. Hard Rock International, which acquired The Mirage from MGM in 2022 for $1.07 billion, is spearheading this ambitious project. The decision to rebrand and redesign the property into the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino and Guitar Hotel Las Vegas has been in the works since the acquisition, reflecting HRI’s commitment to evolving its brand presence in one of the world’s most famous entertainment destinations.
Statements from Leadership
Jim Allen, Chairman of Hard Rock International, expressed gratitude towards the Las Vegas community and all stakeholders involved in this transition.
“We thank the Las Vegas community and our team members for welcoming Hard Rock after 34 years at The Mirage,” said Allen. “We also appreciate the support from unions, community leaders, government organizations, and the Gaming Commission, as well as MGM for assisting with our transition.”
Joe Lupo, President of The Mirage, also conveyed his appreciation for the employees’ dedication over the years.
“While we pause for this incredible transformation, we thank all team members at The Mirage for their commitment and service. We plan to host hiring events with other employers in Las Vegas to help connect Mirage employees with new job opportunities.”
Impact on Employees and the Community
The transition from The Mirage to HRHCLV is set to bring significant changes and benefits to the local community. One of the key aspects of this project is the employment opportunities it will generate. The new integrated resort is expected to double the current number of jobs at The Mirage. This expansion will not only provide a substantial boost to the Las Vegas job market but also support the livelihoods of many families in the area.
During the renovation phase, over 2,500 construction jobs will be created, offering numerous employment opportunities within the construction sector. Furthermore, Hard Rock International has committed to paying approximately $80 million in severance packages to eligible employees who remain with the property until it closes. This gesture underscores HRI’s dedication to supporting its workforce throughout the transition.
Guest Reservations and Refunds
Guests who have reservations or show tickets beyond July 14, 2024, will have their bookings automatically canceled and refunded. Those who booked through third-party providers or online travel agencies are advised to contact them directly for rebooking or refunds. This proactive approach aims to minimize inconvenience for guests and ensure a smooth transition during the property’s closure and subsequent transformation.
The Future of HRHCLV
The newly envisioned Hard Rock Hotel & Casino and Guitar Hotel Las Vegas promises to be a groundbreaking addition to the Las Vegas Strip. The highlight of this development is the nearly 700-foot guitar-shaped hotel, which will serve as a central and iconic feature of the resort. This innovative design is expected to attract tourists from around the world, adding a unique visual element to the already vibrant Las Vegas skyline.
The transformation of The Mirage into HRHCLV marks a significant milestone for Hard Rock International and the Las Vegas community. With the promise of increased job opportunities, substantial severance packages for employees, and a state-of-the-art resort, HRI is poised to make a lasting impact on the Strip. As the project unfolds, both locals and visitors can look forward to the exciting changes that this new integrated resort will bring.
