International Game Technology (IGT) has signed a 10-year contract with National Lottery PLC, the new operator of the Maltese National Lottery, and expects to sign a second contract that will run until 2032.
IGT worked closely with National Lottery PLC to develop a new lottery program for Malta, including the reintroduction of instant win games.
Following National Lottery PLC’s license approval, IGT’s lottery system and retail solutions were launched in Malta for the first time in July 2022.
In addition, an extra lottery draw for Lotto was developed, as well as two new games, Pick 3 and Super 5-4-3-2-1.
This marks the first launch of lottery games in the country in over a decade.
Johann Schembri, Founder and CEO of IZI Group, said: “IGT has extensive experience in driving sales growth for leading lotteries such as National Lottery PLC and is the ideal partner to rebuild the Maltese National Lottery.”
National Lottery PLC, a subsidiary of IZI Group, won the contract after the end of the government monopoly, replacing the existing operator, Malco Lotteries Limited.
The National Lottery will be regulated and supervised by the Malta Gaming Authority and managed by National Lottery PLC until July 2032.
Jay Gendron, IGT’s Global Lottery Chief Operating Officer, said: “National Lottery PLC and IGT are very confident in completing the comprehensive lottery system implementation and deploying new devices in Malta’s retailers.”
“Nevertheless, IGT is ready to face the challenges. Our technology, as well as new lottery-based games and features, are launched on a record-breaking timetable and as scheduled.”
