The Swedish Trade Association for Online Gambling (BOS) has released a report that provides insights into the channelisation rate of Sweden’s online gambling market. Conducted by Skop on behalf of BOS, the report indicates an overall channelisation rate of 77% in the country. The survey, which interviewed 9,850 participants, found that approximately 3,000 of them engaged in online gambling at least once per quarter. The findings shed light on the level of awareness among Swedish gamblers regarding licensed operators and the government’s goal of achieving a 90% channelisation rate.
Channelisation Statistics:
Breaking down the 77% channelisation figure, the survey revealed that 2,439 participants (representing 77%) were aware that the gambling websites they used had a Swedish gambling license. These individuals placed bets totaling SEK 467,287 ($43,754). On the other hand, 163 respondents (11% of the participants) admitted to using operators without a Swedish license, placing a total of SEK 64,223 in bets. The sports betting market demonstrated the highest online channelisation rate at 84%, while the online casino segment had a slightly lower rate of 72%. The remaining 12% of participants were unsure whether the websites they used had a license, with 302 individuals betting a total of SEK 73,611 during the period.
Survey Questions and Government’s Channelisation Goal:
The survey posed questions such as whether the participants gambled on websites with a Swedish gambling license and the amount they wagered during their last online gambling session. The Swedish Government aims to achieve a channelisation rate of 90%, comparable to neighboring Denmark’s rate. The reported 77% channelisation rate indicates that there is still progress to be made in meeting the government’s target.
The BOS report presents valuable insights into the channelisation rate of Sweden’s online gambling market. With a current rate of 77%, there is room for improvement in ensuring that more Swedish gamblers choose licensed operators. The findings underscore the importance of raising awareness about licensed operators and promoting responsible gambling practices. As the government strives to achieve a 90% channelisation rate, continued efforts to educate and inform players about licensed platforms will play a crucial role in the future of Sweden’s online gambling landscape.
