GambleAware, a UK-based charity focused on addressing gambling-related harm, has introduced an open-access funding application process for the 2023/24 financial year, until March 31, 2024. This initiative aims to provide support, treatment, and resources to combat gambling harm within Great Britain. Frontline services directly assisting individuals affected by or at risk of gambling harm will have the opportunity to secure funding for ongoing projects.

Open-Access Funding Application Details:

The first application round is set to commence on August 7, 2023, and will conclude on August 21, 2023.
Eligible applicants are limited to frontline services located in Great Britain that are actively engaged in delivering support to those impacted by gambling harm.
Funding will specifically support the continuation of existing projects.
Funding Prioritization Criteria:
GambleAware has established a framework to prioritize funding applications based on five key criteria:

Preventing Escalation of Gambling Harm: Projects aimed at preventing the worsening of gambling-related harm.
Reducing Gambling Harm: Initiatives focused on mitigating the effects of gambling harm.
Ensuring Widespread Service Accessibility: Projects designed to offer a broad range of suitable services to affected communities.
Increasing Public Awareness: Efforts to raise awareness of gambling harm among the general population.
Protection of Vulnerable Individuals: Initiatives aimed at safeguarding the most vulnerable members of society from gambling harm.

Application Assessment Criteria:
Each application will be evaluated based on the following factors:

Delivery Model and Approach: An outline of the approach and methodology employed.
Evidence of Need: Demonstrating a clear understanding of the need for the project within the community.
Value for Money: Ensuring efficient and effective allocation of resources.
Sustainability: A plan for the project’s long-term viability.
Potential Outcomes and Impact: Identifying the expected positive outcomes and the project’s overall impact.
Notification of Successful Applicants:
Organizations submitting applications will be informed of the outcome in mid-September 2023.

GambleAware’s CEO Perspective:
Zoë Osmond, CEO of GambleAware, acknowledged the anticipated introduction of a statutory levy, as outlined in the UK Government’s Gambling White Paper. While welcoming this development, she emphasized the importance of a smooth transition for both the industry and organizations dedicated to gambling harm research, prevention, and treatment.

The open-access funding application process represents a proactive step in addressing gambling-related harm and delivering support where it is needed most. GambleAware’s commitment to reducing the impact of gambling harm in Great Britain underscores its dedication to promoting responsible gambling and well-being within the community.
