The Danish Gambling Authority, Spillemyndigheden, has secured a legal victory in its ongoing efforts to combat illegal gambling. The Copenhagen City Court recently ruled in favor of the Authority in all 49 cases brought before it. This marks the ninth instance in which the Danish Gambling Authority has successfully taken legal action to block illicit gambling websites, bringing the total number of blocked sites to 276 since 2012.
Crackdown on Illegal Operators:
The blocked websites had been operating illegally by offering betting and iCasino services to Danish players without the necessary licenses.
Legal operators in Denmark are required to prominently display the Danish Gambling Authority’s label on their websites and marketing materials.
When the Authority identifies illegal gambling sites, it first informs them of the violation and requests that they cease their illicit activities.
If the illegal websites persist, the Danish Gambling Authority seeks court orders to block them, preventing access to Danish players.
Increased Vigilance:
In response to the growing issue of illegal online gambling, the Danish Gambling Authority plans to block illegal websites twice a year.
