Maryland’s sports wagering market has been experiencing substantial growth. In August, the state’s 12 retail and 12 mobile sportsbooks generated a significant handle of $263.7 million. The mobile segment accounted for a substantial 94.9% of the total handle, amounting to $250.3 million, while retail sportsbooks contributed $13.3 million in bets. These impressive figures are indicative of the strong demand for sports betting in Maryland.
Contributions to the State:
Sportsbooks in Maryland contributed $2.6 million to the state. Each sportsbook is mandated to provide 15% of its taxable win to the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future Fund, which supports public education programs. The mobile wagering segment contributed $2.4 million, while retail sportsbooks added $97,962. In total, the taxable win for the month reached $17 million, with online sports betting accounting for $16.3 million.
