FBM Foundation’s Bayanihan para sa Kababayan: Building Solidarity in the Philippines

FBM Foundation marked the beginning of 2023 with a resounding act of compassion through its Bayanihan para sa Kababayan program. This transformative initiative aims to support Filipino communities facing adversity. While the program’s inaugural effort took place in Quiapo, Manila, its far-reaching objectives extend throughout the year, fostering unity and cooperation within Filipino society.

Six Initiatives, One Goal:
Spread across January, March, May, July, October, and December of 2023, the Bayanihan para sa Kababayan program unfolds as a six-month commitment to uplift Filipino populations. Rooted in the essence of Filipino culture, it embodies unity, civic harmony, and compassion for others.

Vítor Francisco, Director of FBM Foundation, emphasizes that assistance isn’t solely measured in monetary or material terms; it’s also about bringing joy, motivation, and inspiration to people’s lives.

New Year’s Nightmare:
For over 500 families in Quiapo, Manila, the New Year commenced on a tragic note. A devastating fire on December 29th, 2022, razed their homes, leaving them in dire need. The calamity struck during what should have been a time of celebration, turning it into a heartbreaking ordeal.

Most affected structures were constructed from highly flammable materials, exacerbating the catastrophe. The barangay hall and daycare center also fell victim to the flames. Displaced residents had no choice but to remain in the affected area, living in makeshift tents they erected for shelter.

From Words to Actions:
FBM Foundation wasted no time in mobilizing assistance. Fourteen dedicated volunteers stepped forward to provide much-needed relief to the affected families residing in the Brgy. 387 Arlegui St. Quiapo, Manila area. Essential supplies such as rice, canned goods, milk, noodles, and toiletries including shampoo, toothpaste, baby wipes, diapers, and soap were distributed to those in need.

All relief efforts adhered strictly to government-issued COVID-19 health and safety protocols, ensuring the well-being of both volunteers and beneficiaries.

A Year of Compassion:
The Bayanihan para sa Kababayan program has scheduled six activities for 2023. Each initiative is meticulously crafted to address the specific needs of underprivileged Filipinos, aiming to uplift their spirits through care and assistance, without expecting anything in return.

In a world where challenges can be overwhelming, FBM Foundation’s commitment to unity and compassion shines as a beacon of hope for the Philippines.
