Mark Vanderwielen’s appointment as Vice President of Hotel Operations at Hard Rock Atlantic City follows an impressive career in the hotel and casino sector. Most recently, he served as the General Manager of three hotels in San Francisco under the Viceroy Hotel Group. Before this, Vanderwielen held the position of Vice President of Hotel and Property Operations at Borgata Hotel Casino and Spa in Atlantic City for 13 years. His extensive industry experience also includes roles with prestigious hospitality brands such as Hilton and Kimpton Hotels. Vanderwielen’s professional journey has taken him across the globe, from London to New York.
Hard Rock Atlantic City’s New Management Team:
Hard Rock Atlantic City casino underwent significant changes in its management team in January. George Goldhoff was appointed as President, with Mike Sampson taking on the role of General Manager. Goldhoff reports directly to Jim Allen, Chairman and CEO of Hard Rock International and CEO of Seminole Gaming, while Sampson, who initially served as the interim General Manager, reports to Goldhoff.
Atlantic City Casino Profits in 2022:
The New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement recently released figures reflecting the financial performance of Atlantic City’s nine casinos in 2022. The data indicates an aggregated operating profit of $731.2 million for the year, representing a 4.6% decrease compared to 2021.
In 2022, only two casinos showed an improvement in their operating profits. Hard Rock Atlantic City reported a substantial increase, generating over $128 million, representing a growth of more than 20%. Similarly, Ocean Casino saw its operating profit rise to $96.2 million, marking a 5.5% increase compared to the previous year.
However, some casinos experienced a decline in operating profits. Bally’s recorded a loss of $1.8 million, a significant shift from the $13.1 million profit reported in 2021. Borgata’s operating profit decreased by 19.4%, while Caesars was down by 2.7%. Harrah’s reported a 10% loss, while Resorts and Tropicana experienced declines of 24% and 7.6%, respectively.
