Illinois Casinos Report $129 Million in October Revenue, Marking an 11.3% Year-on-Year Increase

In October, Illinois’ 15 land-based casinos collectively generated $129 million in revenue, according to data from the Illinois Gaming Board. Although this figure represented a 2.4% decrease from the $132.1 million reported in September, it marked a notable 11.3% year-on-year increase.

Top Revenue Earners:
Rivers Casino emerged as the top revenue-earning casino in the state, contributing $43.3 million to the overall figure. Grand Victoria Casino and Harrah’s Joliet Casino followed with revenues of $11.7 million and $10.1 million, respectively. Bally’s Chicago, the state’s newest casino and the only one in Chicago, reported $7.6 million in revenue.

Revenue Trends and Declines:
While the overall year-on-year increase is significant, twelve out of the fifteen casinos experienced declines in revenue compared to September. Notably, three casinos faced double-digit losses: Walker’s Bluff, with a decline of 26.1%, Argosy Casino with an 11.8% drop, and Hollywood Casino Joliet, with a decrease of 10.9% month-on-month.

Bally’s Chicago Development:
The Illinois Gaming Board’s recent decision to grant Bally’s the conversion of its temporary operating permit into a full casino license is a pivotal development. This move propels the company forward with its $1.7 billion gaming venue in Chicago. The board also approved an extension of Bally’s lease at Medinah Temple by a year. Medinah Temple will continue to serve as a temporary casino until 2026, providing Bally’s with an additional year to complete its permanent site in River West.

Despite a slight monthly decline, the year-on-year revenue increase for Illinois’ land-based casinos in October is a positive indicator of the industry’s resilience and recovery. The performance of individual casinos, especially the success of Rivers Casino and the development progress of Bally’s Chicago, showcases the dynamic landscape of the state’s gaming market. As the industry continues to evolve, these insights provide valuable data for stakeholders and enthusiasts alike.
