This marks a 13.5% year-on-year increase and a substantial 13.3% surge compared to August 2023, positioning September as the highest monthly total since March.
Online Dominance:
Of the total handle, players wagered $605.2 million online, showcasing the continued dominance of the online sports betting sector.
Retail sportsbooks contributed $4 million to the overall handle, emphasizing the preference for online wagering among Arizona bettors.
Winnings and Adjusted Gross Event Wagering Receipts:
Player winnings for September amounted to $550.6 million, resulting in adjusted gross event wagering receipts before free bets totaling $59.7 million.
This figure represents an 8.2% increase from September 2022 and nearly doubles the $30.9 million reported in August.
Online gross receipts stood at $59 million, significantly surpassing the retail contribution of just $473,199.
Month-on-Month Growth:
Adjusted gross event wagering receipts, after discounting free bets, reached $32.6 million, marking a 6.2% increase from September 2022 and a remarkable 52.3% surge from August.
Market Share Leaders:
DraftKings emerged as the market leader, capturing 35.7% of all bets with a handle exceeding $218 million.
FanDuel secured a substantial market share, with a handle of $179 million, accounting for 29.3% of the market.
BetMGM demonstrated a competitive presence with an almost $90 million handle.
Tax Contributions:
Arizona collected $3.2 million in taxes for September, with the majority derived from online betting, contributing $3.16 million.
Retail sportsbooks made a modest contribution of $35,807 to the overall tax revenue.
