Penn National Gaming is set to host a groundbreaking ceremony on November 28 for a new hotel at Hollywood Casino Columbus, Ohio, as part of its expansion plan. The estimated $100 million hotel will be connected to the existing property and feature 180 rooms, meeting spaces, an additional restaurant, and various amenities. The project is expected to generate hundreds of construction jobs and approximately 100 permanent jobs upon completion.
Expansion Plans Overview
The hotel construction is part of Penn National Gaming’s broader strategy, which includes four projects across different locations. This initiative comprises new land-based casinos in Aurora and Joliet, Illinois, an additional hotel tower in Henderson, Nevada, and the highlighted hotel expansion at Hollywood Casino Columbus. Funding for the Aurora project will involve $50 million from the City of Aurora, while Gaming and Leisure Properties will contribute up to $575 million toward the overall $850 million budget for all four projects.

Jay Snowden, CEO and President of Penn National Gaming, expressed enthusiasm about the upcoming construction, stating, “We are thrilled to soon begin construction on a new, state-of-the-art hotel at Hollywood Casino Columbus.” Snowden highlighted the tremendous growth of the Columbus property since its opening in 2012 and emphasized that the new hotel would position Hollywood Casino Columbus as a true regional destination.
Project Impact and Job Creation
The hotel project is anticipated to create significant economic impact by generating employment opportunities. Hundreds of construction jobs will be created during the building phase, and approximately 100 permanent positions are expected to be available upon the hotel’s opening. Rick Skinner, Vice President and General Manager of Hollywood Casino Columbus, expressed excitement about showcasing the new hotel to visitors from the region.
Ohio Gambling Revenue Insights
In a broader context, Ohio’s casinos and racinos reported $191.9 million in gambling revenue for September, showcasing a 1.7% increase compared to September 2022. However, this figure represents a 1.5% decrease from August 2023. Hollywood Casino Columbus contributed to this revenue, generating $22.6 million.
