The American Gaming Association (AGA) recently threw its support behind a new legislative initiative aimed at combating human trafficking within the hospitality, entertainment, and transportation sectors.
Legislative Initiative and AGA’s Endorsement
The legislative proposal, spearheaded by Congressmen David Valadao and Troy Carter, seeks to establish a certification program under the Department of Homeland Security’s Blue Campaign. This program aims to recognize employers who train their workforce to identify and combat human trafficking. AGA President and CEO Bill Miller praised the initiative, emphasizing the industry’s role in frontline defense against this pervasive crime.

In January, coinciding with Human Trafficking Prevention Month, AGA partnered with RG24seven Virtual Training to launch an online program targeting gaming industry employees. This initiative offers comprehensive education through videos, quizzes, and certification, all at no cost to gaming companies. AGA VP of Government Relations, Alex Costello, underscored the importance of such training in enhancing industry responsibility and community protection.
Industry Growth and AGA’s Role
AGA’s Q1 2024 report revealed substantial growth in the US commercial gaming sector, marking the 13th consecutive quarter of expansion. This growth is evidenced in increased revenues from iGaming and legal sports betting, highlighting the industry’s economic impact alongside its proactive stance on social issues like human trafficking.
