Public buildings across Argentina are lighting up green again this February, but the message is sharper in 2026. Provincial regulators are using Responsible Gambling Month to warn about youth exposure and illegal play at the same time Congress still has not delivered a clear, nationwide framework for online betting safeguards.
The campaign is meant to feel national even though gambling oversight is largely provincial. That tension is now the story: provinces are tightening prevention and education, while federal policy moves in fits and starts.
Green lights and training take the message nationwide
Provincial lotteries and regulators are coordinating outreach under the “Luz verde al juego responsable” campaign, using green-lit facades as a shared symbol and running education efforts throughout February. Misiones’ lottery, for example, said it will intensify talks, training, and community events, and is pushing under-18 messaging alongside tools such as assistance hotlines and self-exclusion options.
Other recent coverage of the campaign also points to training sessions aimed at public officials, educators, and community groups, with a focus on early intervention and safer-play habits. Misiones said the nationwide coordination runs through the Association of State Lotteries of Argentina (ALEA) and that the shared February push has been coordinated across provinces since 2016.
Federal bill hangs in limbo while provinces set their own rules
At the federal level, lawmakers have tried to respond to the rise of online betting among teens by targeting advertising and access controls. A bill approved by the Chamber of Deputies in November 2024 would restrict betting ads and sponsorship and strengthen age-gating requirements, but it still needs Senate approval to become law.
The Senate has been reviewing multiple proposals, but the process has moved slowly. In October 2025, Senate committees discussed the package and warned about the risk of the project losing parliamentary status if it is not advanced. Until a federal standard lands, Responsible Gambling Month is doing double duty: public awareness for players, and political pressure for lawmakers to turn provincial campaigns into enforceable, nationwide protections.
