Clark County Approves Hard Rock’s Mirage Volcano Transformation

Clark County Commissioners have given their approval for permits and designs submitted by Hard Rock International to redevelop the current site of the Mirage volcano. The transformation will include the construction of a guitar-shaped hotel tower, set to commence in 2024, while retaining the existing Mirage tower.

Hard Rock’s Vision:
Hard Rock International is set to reimagine every aspect of the resort with this ambitious project. The centerpiece of this transformation will be a 660-foot-tall guitar-shaped tower, featuring 600 suites, adding a new dimension to the iconic Mirage property.

Regulatory Approval and Acquisition:
In December, Hard Rock International received regulatory approval from the Nevada Gaming Control Board (NGCB) to complete its $1.08 billion acquisition of The Mirage Hotel and Casino. The Mirage name and brand will be retained, with licensing granted to Hard Rock royalty-free for up to three years, during which time the property will undergo a rebranding under the Hard Rock name.

Historical Significance:
The Mirage, which first graced the Las Vegas Strip in 1989, has held a significant place in the city’s history. In 2000, what was then MGM Grand made a notable $4.4 billion acquisition of Mirage Resorts, which included The Mirage, Bellagio, Treasure Island, a 50% stake in the Monte Carlo, as well as other gaming venues in Nevada, Australia, Detroit, and Mississippi.

The approval of permits and designs for the transformation of the Mirage site marks a significant milestone in the evolution of this iconic Las Vegas property. With the introduction of the guitar-shaped tower, the Mirage is set to redefine itself as a destination that combines the city’s rich history with innovative and distinctive design.
