The Australian Communications and Media Authority has ordered internet service providers to block six more illegal online gambling websites. The latest sites are Play Jonny, ACO96, TCL99, Waboom77, Wonaco and WooSpin.

The action follows ACMA investigations that found the services were operating in breach of the Interactive Gambling Act 2001. Website blocking has been one of the regulator’s main tools against offshore gambling sites since 2019.

Blocklist now covers 1,708 sites

ACMA has now blocked 1,708 illegal gambling and affiliate websites since its first blocking request in November 2019. More than 230 illegal services have also left the Australian market since the regulator began enforcing updated offshore gambling rules in 2017.

Illegal gambling sites can look professional but still leave customers without basic protections. Players may lose access to funds, face unfair terms or have no clear complaint route if a site refuses to pay winnings.

Australians can check whether a wagering service is licensed through ACMA’s official register. That check helps consumers separate legal betting providers from offshore operators targeting the market without approval.

Illegal operators remain active online

The latest blocking round shows how illegal operators continue to reach Australian customers through websites, affiliates and digital marketing. Some blocked brands also return under new domains, making enforcement a repeated process rather than a one-time action.

ACMA’s powers focus on services that offer prohibited online gambling or target Australians without the required licence. The regulator can ask ISPs to block access and can also take action against illegal advertising and affiliate promotion.

Consumer warnings continue

Website blocking does not remove every illegal gambling risk. Australians can still encounter offshore sites through social media promotions, search results, crypto gambling offers and mirror domains. ACMA has continued to use public warnings alongside blocking requests. Its consumer guidance tells players to avoid services that are not licensed in Australia and to report suspected illegal gambling websites.
