WSOP cancels Cyprus Super Circuit series

WSOP Super Circuit cancelled

The World Series of Poker has made the decision to cancel the WSOP Super Circuit series in Cyprus. The tour stop was set to take place at the Merit Royal Diamond from April 25th to May 11th. This, of course, is due to the current situation in the Middle East.

Unlike regular WSOP Circuit stops, WSOP Super Circuit stops feature mostly mid-to-high buy-ins, rather than low-to-mid buy-ins.

In 2025, the $5,300 WSOP Super Circuit Cyprus Main Event generated a massive $6,860,000, which destroyed the $5,000,000 guarantee. Harald Sammer came from behind to beat Daniel Rezaei in heads-up play to take home the $1,000,000 top prize. This was the same WSOP Super Circuit event that saw Ren Lin get disqualified, resulting in the loss of his GGPoker sponsorship. He would controversially sign with WPT Global a few months later.

This year’s WSOP Super Circuit was supposed to increase from 15 to 18 rings, while the $5,000,000 guaranteed Main Event’s price point was set to drop from $5,300 to $3,500.

WSOP official statement

Late Sunday night, the World Series of Poker released this official statement on social media, confirming the cancellation of the series.

“Due to the ongoing uncertainties in the region, we have made the difficult decision to cancel the WSOP Super Circuit Cyprus, which was scheduled to take place April 25 – May 11, 2026.

“The safety of our players, staff, and partners is always our top priority. Given the current situation, we believe this is the most responsible decision at this time.

“To those still traveling, we wish you a safe and enjoyable time and thank you for your continued passion for the game. We appreciate the support and understanding of the poker community and hope to bring WSOP events back to the region in the future when conditions allow.”

The latest affected series

Earlier in the month, the World Poker Tour (WPT) cancelled WPT Prime Cyprus at the Chamada Prestige Hotel & Casino in Northern Cyprus, due to the war in the Middle East.

Unfortunately, the players were only given a couple of days’ notice, though they replaced the $1,100 buy-in, $1,000,000 guaranteed tournament with an $1,100 Main Event with no guarantee. The rest of the series carried on as usual, without any WPT-sanctioned events.

Due to the ongoing situation, Cardplayer Lifestyle’s Robbie Strazynski also cancelled the Mixed Games Festival XIII. The festival was set to take place at Resorts World in Las Vegas from March 8-12 and March 15-19. Strazynski lives in Israel and was unable to find another person to host the event. Since then, Resorts World has confirmed they will close down its poker room on March 30.

WSOP Online Super Circuit rolls on

The $180,000,000 guaranteed WSOP Online Super Circuit continues on GGPoker today, with Monday being Day 2 of the massive $15,000,000 guaranteed Main Event, which was a $1,700 buy-in. Players are still able to directly buy into Day 2.

There have already been some massive results, with Leonardo “tadifacil” Nascimento claiming the most noteworthy as of yet. The Brazilian won the $250 Mini Main Event, topping an absurd field of 26,684 entries to win a massive $715,096 grand prize, as well as a WSOP Circuit ring.

Four players also chopped up over $2,000,000 worth of prizes in the $525 Mystery Millions event. Alexei Ivashchenkov was awarded the win, taking down $502,709 and the gold ring after coming out on top against a ridiculous 21,891-entry field.
