Norsk Tipping hit by second cyberattack in two days

Norsk Tipping has been hit by a second cyberattack in two days, causing new disruption to parts of the Norwegian state-owned operator’s online services. The latest incident happened on Wednesday evening, after a similar attack on Tuesday night. The second disruption appeared to be another distributed denial-of-service attack.

DDoS attack slowed services

A DDoS attack overloads websites or digital services with traffic. That can make platforms slow, unstable or unavailable for users, even if attackers do not enter internal systems.

Norsk Tipping’s Tuesday attack affected some game services before the situation was brought under control on Wednesday morning. Later the same day, users again reported technical problems. Several reports pointed to issues with KongKasino, Norsk Tipping’s online casino product. The company worked with Telenor to manage the attack and reduce service disruption.

Operator says attacks look targeted

The attacks appeared to be targeted at Norsk Tipping’s websites and online services. The operator did not identify who was behind them.

There was no immediate sign that customer data or account funds had been affected. The reported impact was mainly linked to access problems and unstable digital services.

The incidents still create pressure for the operator because Norsk Tipping is Norway’s monopoly gambling provider. Its website and app are central to lottery, sports betting and online gaming access.

Technical pressure follows earlier problems

The cyberattacks come after a difficult period for Norsk Tipping. The company has faced scrutiny over earlier technical errors, including lottery prize notification problems and regulatory concerns.

Those earlier issues were separate from the DDoS attacks, but they have kept attention on the operator’s technology and control systems. For a state-owned gambling company, repeated disruption can quickly become a public trust issue.

Norway keeps gambling under monopoly model

Norsk Tipping operates under Norway’s state-controlled gambling model. It offers products including lotteries, sports betting and online casino-style games while returning profits to sport, culture and community purposes.

That role makes service stability important beyond normal business continuity. When Norsk Tipping’s digital channels are disrupted, legal gambling access in Norway is affected more directly than in markets with several competing operators.
