Speciality

Fenix Wijkander is one of the co-founders of CasinoNews.io and brings more than a decade of content writing and casino experience to the team. While their strength lies in content writing, they are really the designated Swiss Army Knife of the site. Fenix guides the site’s content strategy and oversees the website. There are many sites covering igaming news, and Fenix works with the team to develop one that stands out from the crowd.

How do we manage a website intended for humans when the industry moves towards AI? While AI has become a tool in Fenix’s arsenal, they remain firm in their commitment to creating CasinoNews.io for a human audience. In practice, this means building processes and guidelines and working closely with skilled developers to invent new, useful features for the site’s visitors. Automating: where possible; quality and fact-checking, always.

Fenix’s experience in the casino and gambling niche spans 12+ years, several markets, and multiple languages.

While starting out investigating fraud at online poker tables, they soon found themselves writing content for one of the world’s largest online casinos. The move from poker to casino meant their written content would no longer be limited to customer emails, and Fenix copy has appeared on billboards, TV, in newspapers, emails, and online.

Since the start of their career, they’ve written copy and T&Cs for 100s of promotional campaigns, 1000+ emails and SMS to players, reviewed 100+ casinos, learned first-hand about the differences between regulated and unregulated markets, and led teams in creating engaging and fun content while remaining compliant in every market. Keeping the red thread of a campaign across markets, even as regulation forces mechanics and messaging to change, is not easy, but Fenix’s approach of staying holistic and creative in messaging has been key.

After stepping outside the corporate structures of casino content, they built extensive knowledge of the legality of gambling across various markets. They’ve worked on building a large library of factual content on state-specific gambling law in India, written opinionated pieces on the balancing act between regulated and unregulated markets, and conducted case studies alongside expert analysts and lawyers.

Co-creating CasinoNews.io was a natural next step, merging valuable and interesting industry news with a well-curated website that functions as a hub for everything gambling.

Privately, Fenix is a long-time video gamer who shares their time between their latest game obsession and the gym. While not a casino player themselves, they can still enjoy playing a few strategic rounds of Craps, and will enthusiastically cheer on the Swedish Women’s football team every time they play in international games.

Interview with Fenix Wijkander

🏛
Which news topic do you find the most fun to read here at CasinoNews.io?
I am a bit of a regulations nerd, so anything to do with regulations. I was working at LeoVegas during the times that the UK and Sweden moved over to being regulated, and I've seen the struggles first-hand when regulators don't listen to operators, and vice versa.
🔮
In which direction do you feel gambling is heading right now?
Very broad question, but I do think that we will see a lot of talks about prediction markets, especially in the US, and the discourse is very similar to that of "skill" and "chance" based games in India. I also think, or perhaps more wish, that we will see a bit of a reform or shift in gambling regulation. Regulating markets seems to want to micro-manage and tax companies to the high heavens, and I don't think it will work, and will push people towards the grey and black market. But that's just me.
🏠
In what way is CasinoNews.io different from other news websites on gambling?
We want to create a hub, or a home, for people interested in gambling, poker, and sports betting. It's not just about visit, read, leave. We want people to check out the latest stock results of their favorite game providers, plan their next iGaming conference with us, and gain a deeper understanding of the industry as a whole. And we want that process to be fun. Personally, I hate grinding through 60+ pages of "industry analysis" reports. I'm more of a visual learner, and we will provide that to our readers.
🎲️
Looking back on your time working for casinos, any favorite casino game?
I do enjoy Craps, since it looks chaotic but is actually easy to learn, and it's extra fun to add some strategy. As for slot games, I really enjoy Money Train 2, especially the bonus round. Crazy volatile, but a lot of fun to watch.
🖊
Will we ever see your name in any CasinoNews articles in the future?
Maybe! I tend to stay behind the scenes, but I do like to discuss the industry and share opinions on the legality of gambling, so the most likely place my name would pop up on-site would be in an opinion piece or interview.
