Lewis has worked in iGaming for more than 13 years, after moving to betting hub Gibraltar fresh out of university. Initially driven by an obsession with sport, he worked with some of the leading UK betting companies, including Betfred, William Hill, and LadbrokesCoral.

Assisting roll-out of a new app while ensuring the legacy site layout was updated with relevant markets staying front and center on the homepage.
2017

Became a Senior Copywriter for GiG in Malta, working for several of their flagship brands in the midst of sweeping regulatory changes to the sector.
2021
Went freelance

2025
Joined CasinoNews
Joining CasinoNews as the dedicated sports journalist.

He became a Senior Copywriter in Malta for Gaming Innovation Group (GiG) when sweeping regulatory changes were being implemented by the UK Gambling Commission (UKGC). There were many in-house debates about responsible marketing, but it helped him become a more rounded writer and granted him a wider understanding of what it means to sell a product in modern-day gambling.

From changing call-to-action language from instructional (“Bet Now”) to more directional phrasing (“Bet Here”), to improving the clarity of promotional formatting, the experience offered valuable insight into responsible gambling marketing.

But while working for the biggest players in this booming industry was an unforgettable experience, he has always had a penchant for telling a story. He studied journalism at university, and although skills such as shorthand are not as relevant as they used to be, that grounding has always informed him on his future decisions, which has brought him to CasinoNews.

He enjoys working with an experienced team of professionals and is proud of the progress CasinoNews has made in a short space of time.

In his spare time, he likes to play and coach football and brag to anyone that will listen that he once appeared as a player on the computer game Football Manager.

Interview with Lewis Constable

🖊
Why do you enjoy writing about gambling news?
I’ve been in this industry my entire professional life and it’s been so fascinating to see it evolve. When I first started out, it was a bit of a bear pit. Responsible marketing standards were nowhere to be seen and it all felt rather Wolf On Wall Street.

In mature markets, it is now a thriving sector and that’s thanks to the collaboration between stakeholders and governments working together to find the safest and most enjoyable experiences. On that journey, there have been a myriad of consequential regulatory, political, and corporate decisions, and there will be plenty more to come. Reporting for CasinoNews is endlessly fascinating and keeps my finger on the pulse.
🔮
Where is the industry at right now?
A rather famous politician recently quipped that the modern world has become a casino. They weren’t wrong. Everything is bettable. That’s something worthy of scrutiny. In my view, we have to trust our industry and political leaders to find the right balance. Put in the safeguards that protect the public from the pitfalls of gambling harms while acknowledging the immense benefit to a smoothly and responsibly regulated sector.

Online sports betting was only legalized in the US in 2018. Gambling is still in its relative infancy in one of the biggest countries in the world. It’s only going to continue to grow. We all have a responsibility to be clear-headed about what that means.
💰
What’s the biggest issue facing iGaming and sports betting?
Prediction markets.

In my professional life, I have not seen a more intriguing challenge to the betting industry. In the U.S., the federal oversight of the likes of Kalshi and Polymarket means they can offer “sports event contracts” without having to adhere to rules and regulations or pay the requisite taxes that betting companies must obey.

There are several ethical and business questions that accompany this. Do state governments miss out on crucial coffer-boosting income? Shouldn’t there be a uniform standard when betting on sports, be it through a prediction market platform or a betting site? Where are the safeguards?

As I write this, state governments are in multiple legal battles with the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), the agency with oversight on prediction markets. This will run and run and it’s going to be fascinating to follow along.
⚽️
Looking back on your time working for sports betting companies, any favorite market?
There’s a little known market with William Hill that no other bookie does. It’s a football betting market called “Match Action Points”. You get 10 points for a goal, 10 points for a penalty, 10 points for a red card, 3 points for a yellow card, and 3 points for a corner. The market challenges you to predict the final amount of points using bands. It’s innovative and clever and remains unique to the company to the best of my knowledge.
