Macau casino gross gaming revenue fell 12.1% year-on-year in June to MOP18.52 billion, or about US$2.29 billion. The result was also 18.1% lower than May’s MOP22.61 billion. The June figure was Macau’s first year-on-year monthly decline of 2026. However, casino revenue for the first six months of the year still rose 6.8% from the same period in 2025.
June revenue falls from May
May had been Macau’s best month of 2026, with gross gaming revenue reaching MOP22.61 billion. June revenue fell after the May holiday period.
Macau’s Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau released the June figures on July 1. The regulator tracks revenue from the city’s casino operators, which include Sands China, Galaxy Entertainment, MGM China, Melco Resorts, Wynn Macau and SJM Holdings.
The June result was lower than the MOP21.06 billion recorded in June 2025. That month had benefited from stronger demand and a more favourable comparison with the previous year.
World Cup affects demand
Industry analysts linked part of the June decline to the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The tournament has drawn attention from some mainland Chinese visitors and gamblers during a period when Macau usually sees softer demand.
The World Cup is being hosted in the United States, Canada and Mexico. Its late-night and early-morning match schedule in Asia has affected entertainment and travel patterns during June. Macau casinos rely mainly on visitors from mainland China, Hong Kong and nearby Asian markets. Gaming revenue can move sharply around public holidays, major events and changes in visitor spending.
First-half revenue remains higher
Macau generated MOP126.9 billion in gross gaming revenue from January through June. The total was 6.8% higher than the first half of 2025 despite the June decline. The market had posted year-on-year gains in each of the first five months of 2026. March produced MOP22.6 billion, while May reached MOP22.61 billion.
The first-half total keeps Macau ahead of the government’s 2026 revenue target pace. The Macau government has forecast full-year gross gaming revenue of MOP236 billion.
Six casino groups hold concessions
Macau has six licensed casino concessionaires. They are Sands China, Galaxy Entertainment, MGM China, Melco Resorts, Wynn Macau and SJM Holdings. The current concessions began in January 2023 and run for 10 years. The operators agreed to invest in gaming and non-gaming projects, including tourism, entertainment, conventions and overseas visitor markets.
