Altenar has received approval from Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis to enter Alberta’s regulated iGaming market. The approval allows the sportsbook technology supplier to support operators preparing for the province’s July 13, 2026 launch.
The move gives Altenar access to Canada’s next commercial online gambling market. Alberta is set to become the second Canadian province after Ontario to open a regulated iGaming and sports betting market to private operators.
Approval gives Altenar Alberta access
The AGLC approval allows Altenar to provide sportsbook services to licensed operators in Alberta. That puts the company in place to work with brands preparing to launch under the province’s new framework.
Altenar supplies sportsbook technology, trading tools, risk management and player engagement features.
Its platform is used by operators in regulated markets across Europe, Latin America and other regions.
The Alberta approval adds another North American market for Altenar. Suppliers entering early can help operators complete technical preparations before launch day.
Alberta market opens in July
Alberta’s regulated iGaming market is scheduled to open on July 13, 2026. Operators will need to complete registration with AGLC and have commercial arrangements in place with the Alberta iGaming Corporation.
The market will allow registered private operators to offer online casino and sports betting products. It is a change from the province’s existing system, where PlayAlberta has been the main legal online gambling platform. The new model is expected to draw major sportsbook, casino and supplier interest. Alberta has a smaller population than Ontario, but it gives companies another regulated Canadian entry point.
Suppliers prepare for operator demand
Technology suppliers are moving before the launch because operators need approved systems, compliance tools and sportsbook infrastructure. That includes player account management, trading systems, payment integrations and responsible gambling controls.
Sportsbook suppliers also need to adapt products to local rules. Alberta’s framework will require registered operators and suppliers to meet standards set by AGLC before serving customers. For Altenar, approval before launch gives it time to build partnerships and support market entry plans. Operators choosing suppliers early can reduce technical delays when the market opens.
