Kylian Mbappé scored twice as France beat Sweden 3-0 in the Round of 32 at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The result sent France into the Round of 16, where they will face Paraguay on July 4. France took control of the match and did not allow Sweden to score. The win kept the 2022 runners-up in the tournament and ended Sweden’s World Cup campaign.

France take control early

Mbappé scored two of France’s three goals as the team moved through the first knockout round. France built a lead against Sweden and finished the match without conceding.

The result continued France’s strong scoring record at the tournament. The team had already finished top of Group I ahead of Senegal, Norway and Iraq. France entered the knockout stage as one of the tournament’s leading teams. The win sent France into the final 16 without allowing a goal.

Mbappé scores twice

Mbappé’s two goals gave France a major boost in the knockout stage. The forward remains one of the main players in the Golden Boot race after adding to his tournament total.

The France captain has been central to the team’s attack across recent major tournaments. He scored a hat-trick in the 2022 World Cup final against Argentina, although France lost the match on penalties after a 3-3 draw.

France will need Mbappé to keep scoring as the knockout stage becomes harder. The team is aiming to return to the final after losing to Argentina in Qatar four years ago.

Sweden exit in Round of 32

Sweden reached the knockout stage after finishing second in Group F. The team progressed behind the Netherlands and ahead of Japan and Tunisia. Sweden could not score against France. It also struggled to contain Mbappé as France built a decisive lead.

The defeat ends Sweden’s first World Cup appearance since 2018. Sweden reached the quarter-finals in Russia eight years ago before losing 2-0 to England.

France face Paraguay next

France will face Paraguay in the Round of 16 on July 4. Paraguay reached this stage after beating Germany 4-3 on penalties following a 1-1 draw.

The winner will advance to a quarter-final on July 9. Canada and Morocco will play in the other Round of 16 match on that side of the draw.

France played Paraguay at the 1998 World Cup. France won the Round of 16 match after Laurent Blanc scored in extra time.
