Danny Tang wins 2026 Triton Montenegro Main Event for $3.5M

Triton Montenegro Main Event final table

Danny Tang went coast to coast to win the 2026 Triton Montenegro Main Event for $3.5 million, giving him his sixth career Triton Poker title.

Tang, out of Hong Kong, has now become the fifth player in Triton Poker history to win six Triton Poker titles. He currently sits in a three-way tie with Punnat Punsri and Matthias Eibinger, only behind Michael Watson (7) and Jason Koon (12) on the all-time Triton Poker leaderboard for most titles.

Tang’s previous five titles all came within a nine-month span in 2023, when he won the Ivan Leow Player of the Year award, having to wait another 934 days to claim another title. Tang came close earlier in the series, finishing second in the $30,000 8-max event for $628,000.

Winner’s reaction

Danny Tang was incredibly emotional after the last card hit the river, remaining in his seat with his head between his hands for several seconds before congratulating his heads-up opponent, Klemens Roiter.

With the victory, which netted Tang a whopping $3,522,000, Hong Kong’s all-time money list leader virtually doubled his largest career cash, which had come all the way in 2019, also at Triton Montenegro.

Tang also became the 21st player to crack the $40 million mark in career live tournament earnings, moving into 20th on the all-time list above Sam Greenwood and Nick Petrangelo.

“It’s a little bit strange compared to the $30K a few days ago. I don’t know why. That day, I was a lot more tense, and it didn’t go my way. But today: redemption.

“I guess whatever the poker gods had for me… the story was beautiful. I don’t know why… I came in with way less pressure today. I was really calm, I had no pressure on myself. I had no expectations, but I’m really glad I won it.

“Honestly, I’m so speechless right now. My Instagram has been blowing up with support messages. I’ve been making a lot of content in Cantonese lately, and I’ve been trying to gather a lot of energy from my fans to get this sixth trophy.

“When I was down to seven big blinds, I thought I blew another chip lead, another big spot, but then I got lucky, I kept myself together, and I kept fighting. I said to myself: ‘If I can double up once, I’m in this.’ And I got myself back into it.

“Even in the heads-up, I was a huge dog. I was telling my friends that I had no pressure and I was really chill about it. Even when I took the chip lead, I was having fun. I could feel that it was going smooth. I was always having one pip better than him. He (Klemens Roiter) is an incredible player, and the cards just went my way today.

“I love Triton, and my career couldn’t be what it is today without Triton or Paul (Phua). I would guarantee that this is the best tour to play in the entire world and I’m glad that I can represent the brand.”

Triton Montenegro Main Event final table

Unbelievably, in rare fashion, players at the Triton Montenegro Main Event final table finished virtually in the place they came into the day in. Only fourth-place finisher Leon Sturm and runner-up Klemens Roiter flipped places.

Kiat Lee was the first to go, shoving queen-four suited from the small blind into Alex Kulev’s ace-king in the big blind. Kulev won the battle of the two shorties to reduce the field to eight.

Kulev would be the next to go, ultimately jamming king-jack offsuit from the cutoff into the ace-jack of Dominykas Mikolaitis in the big blind.

Legendary Patrik Antonius bowed out in seventh, losing a flip with king-jack suited against Wang Ye’s pocket eights.

Cong Pham lost a massive pot to Klemens Roiter in a set-over-set situation before losing a flip with nine-seven suited against Roiter’s pocket sixes.

Mikolaitis was the first seven-figure prize winner, being knocked out in fifth after getting it in good with ace-eight suited against Wang Ye’s ace-four suited. Wang hit a four on the turn to bust the Lithuanian in fifth place.

Sturm finished fourth after losing a classic flip with pocket queens against Roiter’s ace-king.

After Roiter eliminated Wang, he got into heads-up play with a massive 5.5-to-1 chip lead over Tang. Tang battled back and then won a huge pot with ace-jack against ace-four to surge into the lead.

Tang took a 5-to-3 lead and then got in with ace-jack suited against Roiter’s ace-seven. Despite trip sixes coming in on the turn, Tang avoided a dreaded chop with a three on the river to become the Triton Montenegro Main Event champion and a six-time winner on tour.
